POWER UP

Volvo Cars energized news headlines in the summer of 2017. The company vowed that, by the summer of 2019, it will only produce cars that contain some kind of electric propulsion - marking the “historic end” of vehicles powered by internal combustion engines alone. Volvo Cars’ Vice President of Vehicle Propulsion, Karin Thorn, told us: “It was great that it helped to draw attention to the products that are on the market today. And it’s inspirational for me and others to see such an interest in what we’re doing. This announcement was really important for the project, giving a great deal of positive energy.” All new engines from 2019 onwards will contain some form of electri cation, with ve new entirely electric car models launched in the two years following that. No technical or performance speci cations have been announced yet: but Karin advises us to “watch this space.”
